The Six Elements of Expert Triage

The six elements of Expert Triage are:

1. Implement a content-based triage at the outset.

2. Group and review documents/ESI by subject.

3. Review in small teams with subject-specific training.

4. Employ verifiable metrics to assess, validate, and refine the approach, enabling one to make accurate, justifiable broad cuts without individual review.

5. Rethink and gear training and support materials to foster maximum comprehension by the review team and accuracy and uniformity throughout the life of the review.

6. Integrate all elements of the process, making sure that reviewers’ self-interest meshes with that of the project and that the process has the necessary consistency, flexibility, and rigor.

The elements of the above system will not crash. They work at whatever scale you choose. In addition, a well-structured system promotes resiliency.

Furthermore, Expert Triage provides the only approach to deal efficiently with hard-copy and “non-searchable” imaged/PDF documents. Although usually a small percentage of the potentially relevant universe, their review accounts for the greatest per-page cost.
